Preliminary testing on Cassidy International Airport Runway
The Emergency Runway Repair consulting firm, SMEC, together with its subconsultant, undertook asphalt coring of the runway pavement at Cassidy International Airport. This activity is carried out to determine the extent of oxidation in the asphalt, the depth of cracking and the bonding between the asphalt and the underlying layer.
The asphalt cores are being tested in a laboratory in Fiji to further analyze their properties and the results are scheduled to be available in two weeks.
