New temporary landfill in Kiritimati

New temporary landfill in Kiritimati
A ground breaking was successfully completed today at Tabwakea to signify the beginning of works on a new temporary landfill for Kiritimati island. The landfill is a project led by the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agricultural Development (MELAD) who have engaged a local expert to oversee the establishment of the new site.

The current landfill is reaching its capacity and poses many health threats to the neighbouring communities. With this new landfill located further inland, potential hazards will be avoided in the future.
MLPID is proud to support this project alongside the Kiritimati Urban Council. MLPID will be supplying the heavy machinery for the initial levelling of the landfill as well as scheduled levelling in the future as the landfill becomes fuller. We knowledge the New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) for making this intiative a reality.
